Where's my money and why can't I withdraw??

I am currently a student at Ashford University in the business management program. I work long hours and fell behind this summer.

Well, I like the Western Governor's college and their schedule so I asked my advisor to withdraw me. She ' suggests' an academic leave of 45 days. This would have been my third leave request. She states that if I still want to withdraw then she will help me.

A few days later I have an email from the University asking why I dropped out. My advisor emailed me and apologized for her mistake on my paperwork. The request was denied so when I didn't post any work for seven days I was labeled a dropout. Now I am doing some re-entry crap.

It's all a bunch of bull. I just had over $7000 of federal grants and loans applied to my account and my balance is $0.00. No stipend for the second time. My balance went from over $2, oo.00 to the exact amount of my loan.

Yeah right. I am leaving this sight and going right over to the F.A.S.F.A website and my student loan provider to file formal complaints. I am also contacting a lawyer for my money back and wasted time. Thanks Ashford for leaving a bad taste in my mouth for online learning.

Although I refuse to give up.

I will get my degree. Oneday.

I WENT ONLINE TO SEARCH FOR COLLEGES. THE FIRST ONE THAT POPS UP IS ASHFORD UNIVERSITY.

SO THEIR VERY WELL TRAINED TELEMARKETERS WILL SAY WHATEVER THEY THINK YOU WANT TO HEAR, SO AFTER ENROLLING AND GOING 2 YEARS WITHOUT FAILING A CLASS, I FAIL 1 CLASS AND ACE THE SECOND PART OF THAT CLASS. SAME INSTRUCTOR SAME MATERIAL. FIRST CLASS I CAN'T DO ANYTHING RIGHT. SECOND CLASS I CAN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG.

BUT ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER THEY TELL ME I OWE THEM 3700.00 FOR THE FAILED CLASS AND WON'T LET ME IN TO MY NEXT CLASS UNTIL I SET UP A 70.00 A MONTH PAYMENT PLAN FOR 70 MONTHS. I TRIED TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER SCHOOL CAUSE I NEED THE DEGREE. BUT, THEY WON'T GIVE ME THE TRANSCRIPTS SO I CAN START WHERE I LEFT OFF. IF I WANT TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL I HAVE TO PAY OFF MY 23000.00 IN SCHOOL LOANS.

WHEN I FIRST SPOKE TO THEIR TELEMARKETER ITHEY SAID I WOULDN'T HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET AT ALL. THEY SHOULD BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS IF ANY BODY WANTS TO BEGIN A LAWSUIT PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT badazztint2015@***.com I HAVE ALREADY BEGUN THE PROCESS THE MORE THE BETTER.

Do not Care about Student welfare!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I began classes as an online student in June of 2014. I am supposed to graduate in October of 2017. According to my FAFSA, I was expected to receive over $8,000 in student loans stipends this year alone. Three months ago I contacted the Continuing Students Financial department because I crunched the numbers and according to their records I was going to end up with balance. After being told numerous times that my account was fine, they finally agreed in June that I was going to owe them money? As far as getting other funding, they gave me no time even to get scholarships. I complained to many agencies regarding this, only for their attorney to claim the school sent me $2,000 and that is enough to live on for 4 years. You'll have to forgive me, but I laughed due to a corporate attorney claiming a person should be able to live on $2.000 over the course of 4 years. That is most likely the same amount he charged the school to make that outrageous comment! Oh, also the attorney claimed the school was unaware of my status as a disabled student. Now, this was interesting to me considering, in 2015 I was granted Social Security Disability and it took two years to gain it, also, I have been utilizing their Access and Wellness department since 2015, which is their disability services. The lawyer also claimed that the University has been responsible for my student aid, only paying for my online classes. This also was also interesting to me considering they sent me only $2.000 of it over the past 4 years, and none of the costs of my classes ever matched. After all the *** they put me through, I am now maxed out on my student loans through the government, even though I have yet to receive my BA. I am $27,000 more in debt and have nothing yet to show for it. Thank God I got my AAS someplace else!!!

I was forced to withdraw from my course today at Ashford University. I contacted a academic advisor and explained to him/her that this instructor have lowered my grade extensively, and she is out to fail me.

I'm a very good student and I always have gotten good grades, because I do know how to read instructions very well. I tried to tell these evil crooked staff that this instructor is going to continue to lower my grade on my assignment each week until I get a big F, and they kept saying you are doing great right now. I said drop me out of this course all together cause it will get worst every week with her constantly lowering my grade. They refuse to listen to me, and did not want to give me credit so I would not have to pay 50% of the course.

I will try to do something about Ashford University. I will file a serious complaint because the staff did not care if this instructor is setting me up for failure, they just want the money. And they are defending her, and keep telling me I need to talk to this instructor about my grade. But every time I talk to her she always make excuses and lies why she took so many points from my assignments.

Ashford does not care how the instructors treats you in the class because they always protect and defend the instructors.

I WOULD ADVISE NO ONE ATTEND ASHFORD!!! THE STAFF WOULD MAKE YOUR LIFE A LIVING *** AND THEY HAVE MANY BAD INSTRUCTORS THAT WILL FAIL YOU!!!

Started out great shortly after Heald College was shut down

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

And i was encouraged to enroll for online classes at Ashford in May of 2015. My FASA WAS CHANGED to Ashford University it was all good till January of 2016 I requested my stipend they said I had to change my Fasa from Authorized to Unauthorized to recieve it.

They made me feel like a criminal and everything went bad I had good grade prior to this and in February 2016 I broke my left ankle and withdrew from Com 200 the teacher could not understand anything U said even my introduction of myself and scored less than an entire point. They say I owe for that class and later courses failed because I felt less than equal to be motivated they wanted me to pay the $250 a month for a year to pay what I owed. I am on disability since 1998 when retirement from IRS.

I said that is not possible since I make payments on a car with high interest rates almost 25%, payment is 485.00 MONTHLY, now these students loans are due BECAUSE they unregistered me for classes August 4th they want to collect and capitalize on the loans the lender, NelNet is wanting papers by August 4th or I am screwed the Fasa lenders expect $200 per month not some payments of lower affordable amount. YES I AM PISSED OFF ABOUT ASHFORD AND THE FASA LENDERS ALONG WITH HEALD COLLEGE.

Send an email to Srudent Loans Department and explain your situation. They will investigate in your behalf.

If you have proof of having to withdrawal from your courses due to medical it is illegal for them to force you to pay a second time for a course. This school is awful, but good luck on anyone actually closing them down.

They stole all my financial aid for 4 years and now claim magically I owe them more? Yeah good luck Ashford on collecting!

Ashford University put me in debt!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I attended Ashford University twice. I first attended from January, 2011 until September, 2012.

At that time, I graduated with a major GPA of 3.43 and a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.38. On the morning that I received an email that my degree was in the mailed, three hours later I received an email from a Dan Barnes that I let another student use my assignments as their own. I called the number that was in the email and left several messages. This person never called me back or sent any other emails.

I have never spoke to this person. I had to call and try to find someone who knew what was going on. Everyone that I talked to for three hours did not know what I was talking about. Eight months after getting everything straighten out, I had to retake six courses that the other person turn in my work over.

In July, 2014, they did it to me again. Now, they are saying that I have to take seven courses. The other problems I experienced with Ashford University: Changed my advisors multiple times (without consulting me?), Changed my academic progress report to make it appear I need additional courses, and Attempted to compel me to re-take at least six courses, without a preceding hearing, including a course taken on a pass/fail basis (which I passed). I have reached out to the departments of education in Clinton, Iowa and San Diego, California.

I also shared my complaint with the district attorneys of Clinton, Iowa and San Diego, California. I have requested investigation by these authorities into several factors that seem suspicious to me. These factors are: 1. Another student used my work and called it his/her own for a year (after I notified the school of the falsification) without penalty, 2.

I used school-approved reference sources and was penalized, however coworkers used the same reference sources and were not penalized, 3. Over the 2010 to 2014 period, I assisted at least seven of my student peers to achieve at least passing work, but my own work in similar courses during the same time frame is deemed unsatisfactory. Now, Ashford in Clinton, Iowa is closed and the department of education will not investigate due to the fact that they are no longer in Clinton, Iowa. My concern has developed into grief and debt over my struggles with Ashford University.

If anyone knows of an attorney that can help me, please let me know.

I greatly appreciated it. Pamala Irby

Ashford University...don't attend this school!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have been attending for a few months now and have still not received a dime from financial aid. Every time I "fix" my fasfa, tax, or information they say is incorrect they find something else to "fix".

I am so aggregated and pissed they won't stop giving me the run around and just keep signing me up for classes. I haven't received anything from financial aid stating what they are willing to award, so I have no idea how much I'm going to need in loans. It's a terrible university.

The advisors constantly change and never return emails or calls. When I asked about withdrawing due to all the issues I stopped receiving any correspondence from the school!

Ashford University Online Graduate

I graduated in 2012 from Ashford with a 3.8 GPA. I learned that brick and mortar schools sell you an education; ith some effort you can get a degree.

Ashford, on the other hand, sells you a degree and with some effort you can get an education. Likewise, employers know this. If you are going to get a degree...get an education. There are expensive shortcuts like Ashford, but all options will require a sacrifice in money and especially time.

I was disappointed in the quality of 'education' I received from Ashford. In hindsight, I would have been better served attending a brick and mortar school. Employers better recognize and respect those programs. Ashford is a self-study program at best.

Most, not all, of my facilitators were obviously distracted and busy with their own lives; however, two of them (out of the 3 years) were fantastic and students complained those two were unrealistically too critical and demanding. I felt it was obvious these students wanted a degree handed to them with little personal exertion. College requires work and it encroaches on your personal time. You will not have much of a personal life while you genuinely pursue an education.

If you don't have the time...don't go to school. If you do go to school then attend a school employers will appreciate.

Inadequate Education by psuedo professors wanting to collect a paycheck

Ashford University - Inadequate Education by psuedo professors wanting to collect a paycheck
Updated by user Feb 26, 2017

CORRECTION OF TYPO: the students format, not its content

should read the students format, nor its content

Original review Feb 26, 2017
My name is D. Mason, I am a former AU Associate Professor and was employed by Ashford from 2009 through 2016.

I lost my position because I demanded that students submit quality work. On one too many occassions department supervisors have contacted me and inferred that students should not be graded at the same level as a student that attends a "UCSD" brick and mortar university. On the final occassion, Dr. Shari Schwartz (#ShariSchwartz) insisted that I raise a student's grade.

As I explained to Dr. Schwartz, the students format, not its content, met the standard for the assignment; yet I was still directed to change the grade with indirect comments in an attempt to intimidate me per the contact of her supervisor. Further, Dr. Scwartz stated that I needed to consider if Ashford University "was the right fit for me".When I complained to university heads at the highest level I was ignored; and those complaints included being in a hostile workplace, which resulted in the university no longer offering me any future courses.

Plain and simple, as Ashford University is a "for profit" institution of learning, they are more concerned about generating profit through enabling poor students to attain a degree then ensuring that high academic standards are met.

As this is clearly evident by their ability to threaten staff to pass substandard students and then terminate them when the faculty member does not comply. I encourage any accredidtation boards to look closer at how Ashford University passes students who fail to do their work; as well as how they treat faculty members who attempt to maintain high academic standards.

Run from Ashford Fast

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My friend if I were you I would run and find another school, I along with others completed our programs only to be told by Ashford that until we paid a high dollar amount that our account would be put on hold and I would not graduate after four years of hard work. I found more than 50 complaints on Ripoffreports.com I found similar complaints and Ashford put students in more than 70000 in debt and we have nothing to show for it.

There college group Williams and Fudge contacted me representing their accounts and I made a $450 payment and William and Fudge kept $262.50 of that and Ashford claims that is their fee.

That is more than 82% of the original payment. Run fast to another school

Sounds like you needed to keep your affairs in order and pay attention to the detailed requirements of higher education. Of course, the world always needs ditch diggers.

Ashford University Classes Review

It's only 1/12...I still have yet to get an answer as to why I'm getting messages saying I have withdrawn. Needless to say, I'm more than upset!!

Ashford University - Program Review from Newton Falls, Ohio

There has to be something we can do. I am in the same boat was told Ashford was an accredited school to get my early childhood teaching license and it was all false. So no I half way through a program thats 100% false. We need to figure this out so we aren't responsible for our loans. This is wrong and needs to be fixed. Let me know if anyone is in for fighting this school.

I too received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Education Studies from Ashford. I now owe $48000.00 in student loans and just found out that in order to become a certified teacher where I live, I will have to take at least 85 more credits at my University here!

I am flabbergasted and hurt beyond belief.

I worked my *** off for absolutely nothing, and now have no career and interest accruing like mad. I strongly feel that something must be done; this is horrendous.

They didnt tell me!!! Hurt! Still would like answers!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I transferred to get my BA degree at Ashford University in early childhood education. I was told they were accredited.

I live in Illinois, but was taking the online classes in Iowa. I worked hard and graduated with my BA in hand! I was so excited! I was told someone would contact me when the time came for student teaching.

No one did. Two weeks later I called the school and they directed me to the affliction school they had to set me up with student teaching. I talked to the guy and he told me something I had never expected! He said, "I am sorry, but Ashford University got rid of their Early Childhood Education Accreditation.

They still have Elementary Education!" I was in shock! I told him I went to school and I have my degree in Early Childhood Education! I just needed my student teaching to get my certificate to become a teacher. He told me sorry there was nothing he could do about it.

If I would like I could enroll in the Elementary Education program."

I would have to enroll and take two years over again! My father had passed away and I received money from his estate. I paid the over 50 grand! I felt relief knowing that I spent that money for something good and I know that I was lucky to have not been in debt.

Then I find this out. I go the the ROE in my area and tell them about this. The Head of this department told me that it was going to be ok. Some people get their degrees first before they student teach.

All I needed to do was fill out all this paperwork, which I did, and then to call different colleges to ask if I could get into their student teaching program. I called over 100 schools all telling me the same thing! I needed to enroll into THEIR Early Childhood Education Program in order to do it. Basically, I would need to wipe away the education that I just worked so hard for, with a degree I already had in hand to pay thousands more for the same thing.

I was so hurt and I still am! I spent that money thinking at this point I would be doing what I wanted to do, which was to be a teacher! I did everything I was suppose to do and two months before I graduated they got rid of their accreditation! No one helped me and I have a degree now that is worthless!!!

This was back in 2013! I still can't teach because this school didn't keep their promise! They should have least contacted all the students that were graduating that year for that degree and grandfather us in! I'm sad my fathers money went to waste!

I saw that their was a settlement for fraud of some kind years ago with the school! It makes me sick that other things have happened to other students over the years. If there's anyway that anyone can help me with this even now I would appreciate it!

To all of you out there that also got hurt by them, I am so sorry! They didn't hold up their deal!

CANT GET MY TRANSCRIPT FOR NEW COLLEGE

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I think its so *** how Ashford University want give students there transcript due to unpaid loans, especially if that person doesnt have a job or been through a hard life. Money dont grow on trees as an adult I have pills to pay now alone, now that I have lost my mother and its hard enough for me to live each day, and return to online college knowing that I have to retake alot of classes, that I have already taking at Ashford, in which means more loans and pell grants to use to pay for classes that have already been paid for.

Its said that my loans have been sent to a credit company or whatever because Ashford had the wrong email on file. I stopped going there over 4 to 5 years ago, and Ive completed alot of classes.

They make it hard for people who want an education, for people who struggle to get their education..... Ashford University sucks and is not a good school at all.

Ashford University is the worse online school to attend. Everything is fine until you get to your 6th class then everything goes down hill the professors start accusing you of plagiarism.

Professors act like they own the College Advisor. They treat you so bad especially if your disabled.

You would think for the amount of debt you going to be in when you graduate from the school they would treat you with respect they don't. Steve Forbes put his name on the wrong School.
